Writer, director, actor, producer and teacher, David C. Jones makes his living in the performing arts, barely. A graduate of Studio 58 and a teacher at The Vancouver Film School he has acted in plays by Mamet, Coward, Shakespeare and Stoppard. He also works as a corporate comedian and a keynote speaker. His short film Same Boat on the People’s Choice Award in 2015. He was a recipient of a Pride Legacy Award and was sainted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. He also likes to casually mention he was the Entertainment Manager of the 2010 Winter Olympics, perhaps you have heard of it? Up next David will be seen Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol.
One of Vancouver’s premier gender illusionists, Symone has been entertaining the masses from Vancouver to Paris and beyond for more than two decades. A past Entertainer of the Year whose dinner show “Dressing on the Side” sold out for five years, Symone has graced the stages of the world. In Vancouver she has played the Commodore Ballroom, River Rock Casino, Stanley Theatre, Vancouver Art Gallery, Plaza of Nations, the Westin Resort and was the opening act for INXS during the 2010 Winter Olympics. She is the current host of Vancouver Fashion Week and has hosted several fundraisers such as Brilliant, Scotiabank AIDS Walk, Fashion Cares Vancouver and numerous VPS Main Stage events. If that was not enough she was also a featured columnist for LOV Magazine. She is both humbled and honoured to be your host for THRIVE!
Born to sing, Alita Dupray, an accomplished vocalist with a contagiously free spirit and is a versatile performer in the Vancouver music scene. Alita is influenced by a dynamic range of music - everything from jazz to blues to reggae, rock, electronica and hip hop. Alita has recorded and performed with the Grammy award winning hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan, and opened for acts such as Inner Circle and Toshi Reagon.
Andrew Allen has already received great acclaim in his native Canada with "I Wanna Be Your Christmas" breaking into the top ten in 2009, claiming the number one spot in 2010, and appearing back in the top ten in 2011. His second single "Loving You Tonight" was backed up by a video that garnered more than 4 million views on YouTube. It was also featured in the Taylor Lautner movie 'Abduction'. In 2014, Andrew was named as a finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition for his unreleased song, “Your Love.”
DESTINEAK is an award-winning electronic duo from Canada who has released one full-length album, nine singles and ten music videos. As international performers, they deliver a main room DJ experience combined with virtuosic live performance, using a custom hybrid drum/DJ/live PA rig. Vocals are performed by the exotic Christina Sing, a classically trained diva with a huge voice and heart from Vietnam. Bobby James is a veteran punk rock drummer who has played many arena tours opening for the likes of Kid Rock, Scorpions, and Megadeth.
At only 13 years old, Olivia wrote and recorded her debut album, releasing it to a sold-out crowd in 2013, showcasing not only her writing abilities, but also her charisma as a live performing artist. In 2015, Olivia travelled to LA to work with hit producer Brian West (Nelly Furtado, Maroon 5, Andy Grammer), to produce “Ferris Wheel,” a song which garnered her a first runner up finish out of 3000 entries in the Radio Airplay Summer Song Contest, a nomination as CKXS Emerging Artists, an invite to perform Ferris Wheel live at QMFM, and radio airplay in Canada, Australia, and Germany. Now 16, Olivia has been working in Vancouver and LA with a multitude of songwriters including Sony/ATV writer Andrew Allen, writer/producer Josh Cumbee (Madonna, Nick Howard), Laurell, DJ Project 46, and Troy Samson. What’s old is new again; Pompadoors (Carl Davis, guitar; Eric Davis, drums; David Spidel, bass, Aidan Miller, keys; Alita Dupray, vocals; Josh Wyper, vocals) are bringing back soulful, entertaining dancing music for the finest parties on the West Coast. The group is an elite, dynamic collection of fashionable musicians that is recognized for performing at Vancouver’s most exclusive events.
Queer as Funk
Totally unique in the history of Vancouver’s LGBT community, Queer as Funk brings together some of the city’s hottest musicians in an explosive, high-energy dance band. With repertoire ranging from beloved funk, soul and Motown classics of the 60’s and 70’s (Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder) to contemporary favorites (Amy Winehouse, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars), Queer as Funk is also the sharpest-dressed suit-and-tie band in town. Queer as Funk has played to consistently sold-out audiences since their inception in early 2013.
